Italian Food: Healthy and Delicious

New York City-based Michael Schamis currently serves as a sales associate with Mister Wright Fine Wines & Spirits on the Upper East Side. In his free time, Michael Schamis enjoys cooking foods from all over the world, especially Italian and Spanish cuisine.

It seems like everyone loves Italian food, from pizza to pasta. In addition to being easy to eat, it is also fun to cook and good for you. There are several essential ingredients in Italian cuisine that are also healthy, including the following:

1. Olive oil: Italians cook with olive oil rather than butter. Olive oil is in many ways more healthy than butter, as it contains lower levels of saturated fat and more antioxidants.

2. Tomatoes: Tomatoes are a staple of Italian fare, whether served on a salad or cooked in a pasta dish. In addition, they include many healthful nutrients, such as vitamin A and potassium.

3. Garlic: Garlic adds an extra boost of flavor to any dish, but the plant also has antifungal and antibiotic properties.
